I have worked at many levels of the formal and informal education systems. I am now a special professor in the school of Education at the University of Nottingham and also hold a post as an adjunct associate research professor at the University of South Australia and am working as an independent consultant and researcher across a range of disciplines and subject specialisms:
- youth, media and technology
- regeneration, community and education policy
- creativity, learning and arts research.
I have
written and researched in these areas over the last 15 years and have developed a wide range of innovative
projects as well as advising local, regional and national bodies.
My last position was Head of Media Arts and Education at
WAC Performing Arts and Media College.
That post entailed:
- Developing and directing innovative multimedia activities for young people.
- Directing a range of social inclusion projects in the arts and media for disaffected young people
- Supporting the growth of new businesses and start up enterprises, providing media training in the informal education sector.
- Developing accreditation for use in the informal education sector
- Providing training and consultancy for teachers and artists in the creative uses of new technologies, especially digital media.
- Research into young people’s use and experience of digital culture and their learning in media education.
Prior to working at WAC I worked as a teacher of Media Studies in a North London Secondary School and in teacher education, establishing a post-graduate qualification for teachers in media education.
I have directed research projects for the Arts Council of England, the British Film Institute, the European Community (Connect 2000), Esm?©e Fairbairn Trust (Shared Spaces) and the Japan Foundation (Pokemon in 5 cultures).
